New HAL-60 Software Makes Scoring MECA Easy

AudioControl Offers New HAL-60 Competition Autosound Software
Makes Holding MECA Events Easier Than Ever

Mountlake Terrace, WA – March 2006 -- AudioControl, the autosound industry’s leading manufacturer of high quality real time analysis instrumentation and SPL measurement systems, introduces a new version of competition software, the HAL-60. This new software upgrade incorporates the new 40 point RTA scoring format for MECA, the Mobile Electronics Competition Association, which makes scoring MECA events even easier.

"We have always been honored that the SA-3055 is the accepted measurement instrument at sanctioned autosound contests throughout the world," explains, Chris Kane of AudioControl. "It was only natural for us to offer the new HAL-60 software to help make the scoring for MECA contests even easier. Unlike most software programs, the HAL-60 does not necessitate the purchase of a NEW computer or analyzer by owners"

NEW MECA Rules Summary

HAL-60The "RTA Freq Out" is MECA’s SQL (Sound Quality League) contest with 1 open class that tests the car audio systems ability to accurately and proportionally reproduce the full frequency range of sound. This new scoring format is based on a 40 point system whereby the microphone is placed on a stand, which approximates the listener’s head position in the driver’s seat. Three test samples are taken from each vehicle using mono pink noise; Track 14 of the MECA SPL Test CD, with the competitor keeping the highest score. In the event of a tie, MECA raises the volume threshold from 90 dB to 95 dB. If a tie remains, the volume is increased 3 dB per test until a winner is determined. This really is a stress test on the entire audio system and a great indication of the audio spectrum reproduction abilities.

"The AudioControl real time analyzers have been great for MECA competitions," commented MECA Commissioner Steve Stern. "They are extremely reliable, easy to use by both Judges & Competitors, and their portability is a definite plus when tuning and testing our vehicles for both SQL and SPL."

The new HAL-60 software will be available as an upgrade to all new AudioControl SA-3055’s and late model AudioControl SA-3050A analyzers at a cost of $150. Special accommodation pricing is available to active members of MECA.
